New York

I was born in New York and lived there until I was 7.
It is without a doubt, my favourite city in the world.
I love going to the city. We try to go at least once a year, this year we went during march break.

In October I'm making my first solo trip to the city. I'll be staying with my uncle but my parents or brother isn't going with me this time.

I'll be going for Canadian Thanksgiving. Probably getting there on the 11th and staying for a couple of days. Nothings finalised yet.

I'm hoping to go see a couple of shows while I'm there...okay it's basically one of my main reasons for going.

I desperately want to see the revival of Hair. If I do nothing else, I have to see Hair. I love this musical. The music, the acting, everything. Especially Gavin Creel. He plays the lead character of Claude. He is pure genius in the role and kills it every night. As much as I loved Billy Elliot when I saw it in March... Gavin Creel should have won the Tony.
His broadway debut was in a show called Thoroughly Modern Millie, which he got a Tony nomination for. It's one of my favourite shows and I'm actually in a production of it in the fall.

The only thing I'm worried about is Gavin not being in the show in October. I know his contract ends in September and he hasn't decided to renew yet. I'm hoping he does with all my might. I know that the cast is going to Washington on October 11th to march in the Marriage Equality rally and he was one of the people who made it happen, so I'm hoping he won't leave before then.
Please musical theatre gods, let Gavin be in the show when I see it.
I must also mention Will Swenson who plays Berger, he was also nominated for a Tony. He is fantastic. The cemestry between Gavin and him is amazing. Just watch the Tony preformance (I posted it awhile back)

A preview of Hair from broadwayworld.com...

Another show I'm hoping to hit is Bye Bye Birdie. I love the music and the movie so seeing a stage production of it would be amazing. The cast is also fantastic. John Stamos from Full House is going to be in it, Gina Gershon, Bill Irwin, Jayne Houdyshell, Molly Ephraim, Allie Trimm and the one I'm excited for Matt Doyle. The cast is an impressive list of stage and screen stars. The only one I've seen live is Matt Doyle who I had the privlige of seeing in Spring Awakening here in Toronto.

My favourite song from Bye Bye Birdie. The Telephone Hour. Pure joy!

I'm also hoping to go to the MET (aka. The Metropoliton Musuem of Art). It's one of my favourite musuems in the city to go to. It has everything, from the book of the dead to Van Gogh's Starry Starry Night. So much fun.

I'm not sure what else I'm get up to in the city. Shopping of course, one of the best sheet music stores I've ever been to is in New York. I'd better start saving.
