The Life of a Grade 12

Hey all!
So this is my first ever blog. I’m a grade 12 student up here in *currently* FREEZING Ontario getting ready to go to university next year. In this process I’ve realised that there’s not a lot of information about what happens after you apply, especially people like me who are applying to programs that need auditions or a portfolio. In response I’ve decided to start this blog to document my journey through my Grade 12 year and applying for university.

I’ve applied to universities using the OUAC (Ontario University Application Center) like every other Ontario High School Student. http://www.ouac.on.ca/undergrad/undergrad.html

It’s a central application center that handles all the applications from Ontario High School students to Ontario Universities.

To apply to 3 programs it costs $CND 105.00. Every additional program is $CND 35.00. So for example if you want to apply to 3 programs at say the University of Ottawa those are your three choices.

My three choices were:
University of Toronto @ Mississauga –Theatre and Drama Studies (joint program with Sheridan College)http://www.utm.utoronto.ca/

University of Guelph – Theatre Studies http://www.uoguelph.ca/

York University – Theatre Studies http://www.yorku.ca/web/index.htm

To no surprise to anyone, I want to be in theatre. I’m primarily an actress but I love production design as well – especially lighting.

For both U of T and York I have to audition. Both need two monologues – Canadian Contemporary and Classic (Shakespeare preferred) and for the U of T audition I need to sing A cappella (without accompaniment).

Along with all this going on I still have to go to school every day to complete my last year of high school with high enough marks to get into the high competitive program (U of T has only 25 spots).

I’m also involved with 3 different musical productions.

2. The Community Theatre Troupe I did my last show with is doing Beauty and the Beast this spring and I’m helping out back stage
3. I’m also helping out backstage with a youth troupe production of Willy Wonka Jr later in the year.
